Day Two
Praises!! Another day of sunshine!! We continued building and completed two houses for some very deserving families. One family consisted of a mother, 13 children, 65 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchilren. Needless to say, they needed as much extra space as possible. Their appreciation was shown in cheerful greetings and thankful goodbyes. At the end of this day we have completed 5 houses and the dedications will be held on Friday. Highlights of the day were watching the children play with their new soccer balls (pegotas) and the girls showing off their newly painted fingernails in either green (verde), red (rojo), or pink (rosadas). Les and Austin even took a turn as manacurists...although most polish seemed to be on skin rather than nails!! Our group has really been able to bond through our work and our devotions each night. We laugh with each other and the families on the work sites and try to keep the love of Jesus overflowing from our hearts.
The highlight of the evening was a wonderful dinner prepared by the very capable hands of Leisha and Kelsey. We invited our construction foreman (Samuel), mission coordinator (John) and the local Pastor (Max) along with their families. There were 20 strong at the table where we shared in fellowship and a meal blessed by Pastor Max with a beautiful Spanish prayer. Thanks to Don for getting the games started directly after the dessert, laughter and joy abound. Don and Austin broke out the guitars and everyone joined in singing praises. The evening was truly one to remember as the mission team shared stories of what brought us to Guatemala. Although tired from the day, we received a burst of energy from the fellowship from strangers that we now call friends. Now on to Day 3........
